Bungoma County: Four suspected gangsters were lynched by a mob at the infamous Kikwechi village in Bungoma County, the scene of attacks where 17 people were killed in April last year.

The four, who had waylaid a lorry belonging to a Bungoma businesswoman near a bridge as it returned from making deliveries in Sirisia market, opened fire immediately the driver approached the scene alerting villagers. The residents cornered the robbers, who attempted to flee using a vehicle but landed in a ditch.

However, the residents whose numbers had swelled due to the commotion, continued pelting them with stones forcing them to flee on foot.

All the four were lynched and their guns handed over to the police who arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later.

Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi and his Sirisia counterpart John Waluke condemned the state of insecurity. “How is it that we are witnessing a similar scenario of insecurity as the one that we faced immediately after the last general election? We recently concluded a senatorial by-election,” said Wamunyinyi.
