Migori, Kenya: A woman in Nyatike constituency, Migori County, locked herself and her four children in a house before setting it on fire.
The mother of four was protesting her husband’s decision to give her Sh1,000 for New Year shopping.
The woman, Jackine Anyango, 23, locked herself and four children aged nine, six, four and one in before setting the house on fire.
Nyatike OCPD Richard Mukwate said the two had argued on New Year’s Eve after the husband gave her the money and asked her to use it to buy the things necessary for the celebrations.

At about midnight when the husband came home, she declined to open the door. “She took one litre of kerosene and sprinkled the house before setting it ablaze,” said Mr Mukwate.
Neighbours managed to break down the door and save the woman and three of her children. The last-born boy was forgotten in the house and burnt beyond recognition.
