KENYA: A member of the Kericho County Assembly has supported Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter’s remarks that the recent visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to North and South Rift did not achieve anything.

Tebesonik Ward Rep Frankolin Rono said the Jubilee leaders failed to adequately address the concerns of residents, who have been grumbling that the URP wing of the coalition has been given a raw deal.

“It is unfair for Jubilee leaders to attempt to silence leaders who are raising serious issues. The corruption claims in the railway construction tender raised by the Nandi Hills legislator should not be casually dismissed,” Rono said.

Mutual respect

He said the coalition partners are equal and there should be mutual respect and equal distribution of posts between URP and TNA.

He warned that the two leaders may be punished by the South Rift residents come the next election if they do not appease them.

He said Kericho County residents had expected Uhuru and Ruto to promise them  parastatals and ambassadorial appointments,  but instead the two leaders remained tight lipped on the matter.

“Kericho County missed out in the first phase of Government jobs despite the overwhelming support Jubilee received in the area. We expected them to come with a bag of goodies only to be disappointed,” Rono said.
