Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula has assured residents of Bungoma County that he will embrace everyone regardless of their political affiliation.

Wetang’ula won the Bungoma by-election by a margin of more than 68,000 votes.

“The hard work begins now. However, we embrace everyone regardless of their political or religious affiliation,” he said.

The Ford-Kenya leader trounced Musikari Kombo in Webuye East Constituency by a margin of 6,231 votes and the difference between the two in Webuye West was marginal at 10,770 and 11,151 votes respectively.

Webuye is Musikari Kombo’s main political backyard as he represented the area for several years as MP since 1992.

The other region where Kombo carried the day was in Mt Elgon where he garnered 17,721 votes against Wetang’ula’s 7,000.

David Makali was the first candidate to concede defeat in the elections, having emerged third.

“It will be good in the spirit of democracy to concede defeat to Wetang’ula as I congratulate him for being a worthy opponent in this race,” he said.

Makali however raised concerns about vote buying by the Ford Kenya and New Ford Kenya candidates before the tallying process was completed.
