NAIROBI, KENYA: Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has challenged those undertaking massive infrastructural projects to uphold quality and professionalism so that Kenyans get value for money.

“I admire the vision and courage of the leaders and engineers who went ahead to build this Railway line, they never compromised on quality and strived to have it last for centuries. This kind of professionalism should be adapted if Kenya is to boast of good infrastructure,” said Raila while officiating the launch of the Makadara Railway Station Monday.

For his love of football, the Coalition of Reforms and Democracy leader also took the opportunity to request that a railway station be set up at the Safaricom Sports Centre, formerly Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

He said it would make the stadium more accessible during sporting events, solve the issue of low match attendance and reduce the traffic chaos always experienced during national functions held at the stadium.

Raila light-heartedly sought to set the record straight on the official title he should be referred to.

“I should be referred to as Prime Minister and not former Prime Minister,” he urged. Raila said Bill Clinton was once the United States president but was still referred to as president so nothing should change about being referred to as Prime Minster.

Raila was speaking during the launch of the Makadara Railway Station Monday, as the chief guest.

The invitation is a clear indication of the Government’s willingness to bring on board everyone. Besides involving Raila, former President Mwai Kibaki will take part in the launch of the Westlands road. His predecessor, Daniel Moi will also unveil the Imara Daima Railway Station.

Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau said he has been given the role of uniting the three leaders, just the way he has to ensure that the whole country is connected, through rail, road, water and air.

Raila also took special notice of Mr Kamau in developing and expanding the transport sector in the country.
