Nairobi, Kenya: First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to support initiatives that improve the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Speaking Friday night during the 10th anniversary dinner of Palmhouse Foundation at Muthaiga Country Club, Nairobi, the First lady praised Palmhouse Foundation for helping needy children.
She said children should be given a chance to excel in life no matter their social background.
“Education for our children is critical. What Palmhouse has done is a treasure. It gives children a chance to be their best. They are learning and excelling in their areas of interest,” she said.

Palmhouse Foundation supports bright children from poor families and has so far assisted 433 children countrywide by funding their education and mentoring them.
She said funding the children’s education and mentoring them, lays the foundation to propel them to success in different areas of their lives.
“That is what we need in Kenya because by mentoring the children, we give them a firm foundation and prepare them for success in future. May other organisations should follow the example of Palmhouse Foundation,” she said.
Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said the Government attaches a lot of importance to education and spends 17 per cent of the GDP on it, adding that without proper education, the country would not realise its development goals.
