The World Health Organisation (2011) survey lists Japans’ life expectancy at 83. This makes life expectancy in the Asian country the highest in the world.
The same survey also places Japan’s healthcare system as the best in the world. But just how did Japan attain such highly acclaimed healthcare stature?
According to scientific studies by world reputable universities and hospitals, Japan’s longevity and exceptional healthcare is attributed to its high consumption of ionised water – Kangen Water.
Kangen Water, a brand name for high alkaline water promoted as a healthier form of water with significant anti-oxidant properties, is fast gaining popularity in the world because of its unique components essential for the development of the body.

It is currently used in more than 100 Japanese hospitals, making the country the highest consumer of ionised water in the world.
John Ngatia, the Managing Director of The Incredible Water and a hydration specialist, argues that alkaline water slows down the oxidation process in the body, making it more suitable for human consumption.
Detoxification
At a seminar titled ‘Change your water, change your life’ at Serena Hotel, a group of individuals conscious of their health were recently treated to an extensive discussion on alkaline water.
The seminar was hosted by Cris Kerts from Australia and Ngatia who are both hydration specialists.
Harvard trained vascular surgeon Dr Horst Filtzer argues that through his research and extensive reading of Japanese literature, he is more convinced that Kangen Water is more valuable to humans as it promotes hydration and detoxification essential for healthy living.
After undergoing a kidney transplant recently, Brian Mimano opted to try out Kangen Water after it was recommended by his physician.
After six weeks of drinking the alkaline water, Mimano says he witnessed a significant improvement in his health. “My blood tests, which are done fortnightly, now indicate that I have had a significant improvement and have since gained more energy,” he says.
Medics say the root cause of most diseases is dehydration, acidic body and free radical damage.
Anti-aging water
Mr Ngatia argues that Kangen Water helps release excess body fat and stored toxins, normalise blood sugar, insulin and blood pressure, helps reverse degenerative diseases such as arthritis, gouts, various cancers, osteoporosis, eczema, psoriasis and fibromyalgia.
The high alkaline water has also proved to support healthy colon function, resolve urinary tract infection, reduce chronic pain, improve wound healing, asthma, allergies and sports performance and slows aging process.
Mr Ngatia says alkaline water is anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging because it is rich in electrons and has high negative oxidation reduction potential.
“The alkaline water penetrates into the cells very easily and removes acid waste from the cells and thus does not cause bloating effect,” he says.
Another important attribute of alkaline water is that it reaches the brain in 30 to 60 seconds and takes a few minutes to reach the skin.
The water is produced by an Enagic machine, which produces three levels of alkaline water – 8.5pH, 9.0pH and 9.5pH.
The machine raises tap water pH by splitting the water molecule resulting in hydrogen and hydroxyl ions.
“Too many people spend their health gaining wealth and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health. And in majority of cases it’s too late. Let your health be your wealth,” Ngatia urges.
The price of ionisation machines range from Sh450,180 for a platinum SD 501 while a Standard SD501 goes for Sh419,160. The LevaLuk R is Sh193,060.
