Kajiado County: Wajir’s Kadhi Court has annulled a three-month marriage of a teenage girl to a man, 36.
Wajir County Kadhi Sheikh Abduwahab Mursal at the same time ordered the man to pay a three-year-old camel as dowry.
The man had eloped with the girl, 18, from Wajir town to Eldas District. Mursal said a religious leader conducted an engagement for the couple under Islamic laws and they had lived for at least three months.
The Kadhi ruled that Islamic religion does not allow a man to elope with a lady. “It is haram (illegal) for a man to elope with a lady and legal action should be taken against any religious leader who conducts such wedding,” Mursal said.
