Nairobians were furious when reports emerged that Kenya Defence Forces troops looted property during the Westgate siege.
Nairobians on social media accused KDF soldiers of being greedy and blowing up the mission to rescue hostages at Westgate.
Shop owners on September 30 reported “massive looting” when they were allowed to go into the mall that was damaged during the hostage crisis.
Others claimed they had lost millions of shillings.

One shocking revelation on the KDF conduct during the siege, which has attracted the attention of the international media, is of a soldier who was allegedly seen stealing cigarettes from a dead’s man body.
KDF has not responded to claims that the soldiers stole valuables and cash at the mall raided by al Shabaab gunmen on September 21.
Pictures that emerged when shop owners were allowed into the mall were of smashed jewellery cases, and emptied cash registers.
During the JKIA fire in August, police and GSU were accused of looting property at the arrivals terminal.
On September 29, the parliamentary committee on defence said it will investigate massive looting at the mall.
Defence committee chairman Nung’u Githinji said they will summon all top security chiefs involved in the operation and any member of the public who may have useful information.
