Bungoma,KENYA; Lawyers in Bungoma County are fearing for their lives following the murder of their colleague Peter Wanyama Wanyonyi earlier this week.
Addressing the media at the Bungoma Law Courts, Law Society of Kenya Bungoma County Chairman Andrew Kituyi asked the government to provide them with security.
Kituyi said since Wanyama’s killing, several lawyers have reported being trailed by unknown people at night. “There appears to be a deliberate scheme to wipe out top legal minds in this county and we feel that the police aren’t doing enough to protect us,” said Kituyi.
Kituyi said prior to his killing, Wanyama had confided in a colleague that his life was in danger after graffiti warning him of dire consequences was scrawled on his gate.

“We are wondering, why and how did our colleague get killed and who had he wronged?” asked Kituyi.
He said some lawyers had been threatened in court but despite making statements to the police, nothing tangible had been done.
