LAIKIPIA, KENYA: A middle aged woman was on Monday night raped and killed at Kwa Wanjiku area in Laikipia west.
Residents woke up to find the body of the woman by the roadside this morning.
It is believed that the woman was attacked while she headed home from the nearby Wanjiku trading center.
According to eyewitnesses, she was found with blood oozing from her private parts.
The incident caused protests from angry residents who blocked the Kinamba-Nyahururu road.
The residents who were carrying twigs barred the police from collecting the body demanding that the perpetrators be brought to book.
“We found the body lying in a pool of blood since after we launched a search for her. We believe that she was attacked as she came home,” said Kamwenje Wairimu, her sister.
She noted that her dresses were torn.
The angry mob demanded that police take action since this was the second death in two weeks’ time.
“It is the duty of the police to protect us and we will not allow these incidents to happen anymore. The police must produce the suspects who are killing innocent people,” protested James Kamau.
Laikipia women MP Janes Apollos who visited the scene condemned regretting that such cases were on the rise.
She demanded that more police officers be deployed in the area to beef up security.
“We cannot seat and watch as people who voted for us are killed by criminals. That is why we will fight for more police officer to be brought here,” she noted.
