Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta has thanked East African leaders for their support following Wednesday’s fire incident at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Uhuru said his counterparts in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi were among the first leaders to send messages of encouragement to Kenyans after a section of the airport was affected by the fire.
The President said the gesture was a satisfying indication the bloc leaders were committed to ideals of the EAC integration process.
“Regional integration is probably the best thing that has happened since the independence of our States,” he said when he opened the seventh edition of the East African Military Games and Cultural Events at the Moi International Sports Centre-Kasarani. The event brings together more than 700 military sportsmen and women from the five EAC member States.

Uhuru said the joint military games are an important tool of integration and urged soldiers to be good ambassadors of their countries.
He praised the military for discipline, professionalism and patriotism.
“I can assure you our governments appreciate your patriotism. We will always provide resources and support you in fostering peace and solidarity in the region and Africa at large,” Uhuru told the soldiers.
He also acknowledged the dedication of EAC Chiefs of Defence Forces in ensuring regional cooperation in defence.
