Nyeri, Kenya: Over 20,000 trees of the targeted 50,000 has so far been planted in the second phase of the reforestation programme in Aberdare forest.
Aberdare National Park senior warden Mr Felix Mwangangi said tree planting programme has helped check floods that had been a problem some time back.
He said conservation of forests was critical, if we were to achieve a 10 percent forest cover in line with vision 2030.
The project that is sponsored by the Rhino Ark Foundation that seeks to secure the entire park with an electric fence to help reduce human wildlife conflict in the area.

Most of the deforestation has been caused by wildlife migration especially Elephants looking for pasture from Mt. Kenya to the Aberdare forests.
Other partners in the project led by, Sirikwa Wildlife that include Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Hoteliers amongst others core objective was to help conserve the environment through tree planting.
