The new county administration has invited the Auditor General to study Sh2 billion pending bills inherited from the previous regime.
The county wants the Ms Nancy Gathungu to appoint a team of auditors to scrutinise the bills incurred by August 25 when Governor Irungu Kang'ata took office.
The circular by outgoing CEC Finance and Planning David Waweru seeks investigation on general supplies, contractors, legal fees and debts owed to semi-autonomous county government entities.
"From the foregoing, we are requesting you to appoint an audit team from your office as soon as practically possible within the month of September. alternatively, you may authorise the county government to procure the services of a reputable firm that can undertake the exercise, read part of the circular also copied to the controller of budget," says the letter dated August 25.
During his swearing-in, Governor Kang'ata regretted the pending bills and pledged to have them scrutinised to establish their authenticity.
"My interest will be on the audit of the pending bills to enable draw a payment plan for the genuine ones," he said.
Last week, his administration suspended operations at the Murang'a County Creameries to analyze how the project has been running.
Trade and Dairy Development Chief Officer Peter Mburu, in a circular on August 31, ordered all the employees at the facility to proceed on leave.
