Three Chogoria Girls’ High School students and a driver died on Saturday morning, December 18, after a matatu they were travelling in collided head-on with a lorry at Kambiti in Murang’a on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway.
The matatu was heading to Nairobi, while the lorry, which was transporting potatoes, was going the opposite direction.
Murang’a South Sub-County Police Commander Alexander Shikondi told The Standard that the driver of the matatu was overtaking another vehicle at 6:40am, when it rammed the lorry.

Other students, who were in the matatu, were injured and taken to various health facilities within Murang’a and the neighbouring Kiambu County.
Wreckages of the matatu and the lorry were towed to Makuyu Police Station.
Bodies of the three students and the driver were taken to General Kago Mortuary in Thika.
Chogoria Girls’ High School is a national school located at Maara Sub-County in Tharaka Nithi County.
