Kimemia condemns closure of county assembly, faults speaker

Governor Francis Kimemia has faulted Speaker Ndegwa Wahome over closure of the County Assembly.

He said the move was aimed at barring a section of members of County Assembly from serving a notice of motion to the Clerk Mukiri Michiri seeking to impeach the speaker.

“The MCAs have a right to exercise their authority to impeach or discipline the speaker who in any case, is an ex-official employee of the MCAs and not their boss,” Kimemia said in a statement.

He said that the speaker is expected to facilitate, mobilise and promote good relations and cooperation with the Executive, which he had failed to do.

“The Speaker is not elected by the people and is expected to be non-partisan, and extremely respectful to the Rule of Law, the people, county and national leadership” said the county boss.

Wahome is facing an impeachment motion that is being spearheaded by Majority Leader Ednard King'ori on allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The Speaker has of late been at loggerheads with the governor, with each accusing the other of poor leadership.

Ndegwa has vowed to stay put, saying he will not be intimidated because of running county affairs.
