Two people died on the spot Wednesday morning after the saloon car they were travelling in rammed into a lorry on Tana River’s Sagana bridge, along Nairobi-Nyeri highway.
The Lorry which was involved in an 8.20am accident was transporting salt from Mombasa to Chuka town, according to its driver Daniel Muchiri.
The shaken driver said that he lost control after the lorry's front tyre burst as the truck approached the Tana River Bridge.
“The front tyre on my side burst just as we approached the bridge and my two turn boys shouted through the cabin windows warning pedestrians and on coming motorists of the danger,” he said.
A Toyota land cruiser said to have been traveling from Meru to Nairobi however hit the lorry's angle line, killing the driver and a passenger on the front seat on the spot.

Two other female occupants of the Cruiser sustained serious injuries and were rushed to different hospitals by good Samaritans.
Confirming the accident, Acting Kirinyaga County Police Commander Charles Ontita said initial investigations into the cause of the accident had indicated the tyre burst was to blame for the morning accident.
“We are still carrying out more investigations to establish if there could have been something else beyond what we have so far that might have been responsible for the accident,” he said.
