NYANDARUA, KENYA: A suspected thief was lynched by a mob and a sheep he had stolen tied to his body at Rutara village, Nyandarua County.

The suspect was among a group of three who had stolen 10 sheep from a resident. His accomplices escaped but he was caught.

The angry mob descended on him stoning him to death before two of the sheep he had stolen were tied in his legs.

Residents who were not aware of the incident were shocked after they woke up to find sheep tied to a dead body with a rope.

According to Ngorika location Chief Josephat Mburu, the suspects had raided the village at around 9 pm on Monday night and terrorized the residents before making away with the animals.

He said a resident raised alarm and neighbours responded.

“The rest managed to escape and with eight sheep leaving behind the two which angry residents tied on the lifeless body of the suspect,” he noted.

He said police are pursuing the other thieves who escaped.

He however warned residents against taking the law into their hands.

The body was moved to JM Memorial hospital mortuary in Ol Kalou.
