A section of ward representatives from Nyandarua County have distanced themselves from the impending impeachment motion against Governor Moses Kiarie, popularly known as Badilisha.
Speaking at the Assembly chambers, 21 MCAs stated that they would not support the motion tabled by Mirangine MCA Samuel Mathu.
Led by Majority Leader Mwangi Nyaga, they termed the move as untimely and out of place. They emphasised that their focus was on development, not political distractions.
“We want to make it clear to the people of Nyandarua that this is not the time for politics, but for development. We do not even recognise such a motion,” Nyaga said.
He alleged that almost the entire assembly, which comprises 41 ward representatives, was opposed to the motion.
“We are fully supportive of this administration. The time for politics ended when we came into power,” he added.
Minority Leader Mwangi Gichuki defended the county government, saying it had delivered on its promises to the people. “We have seen roads being constructed, water piped, and improvements in agriculture. Should we really go back to the past?” he questioned.
However, Majority Chief Whip Maria Kaburu was confident that the motion, which is set to be tabled next week, will go through.
“We already have the numbers. We are just waiting for the date to be set by the assembly leadership,” she said, calling the move long overdue.
“This has been two years of oppression and corruption. The governor has continuously violated the Constitution, and we cannot allow this any longer. That is why we are in support of this motion,” said Kaburu, a UDA-nominated MCA.
Muhindi Kariuki, the Deputy Majority Leader, also expressed confidence that the motion would pass, stating it had the backing of the UDA party leadership.
