The Public Service Commission (PSC) has shortlisted six candidates for the position of Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) chairperson.

The decision was arrived at after careful scrutiny of applications sent through the commission's websites from May 3, 2023.

The interviews will be conducted on Wednesday, July 12, from the PSC head office along Harambee Avenue in Nairobi from 9 am to 3 pm, with candidates being asked to be there 15 minutes before the interview.

"Candidates will be required to produce originals of the following documents: National ID, academic and professional certificates and transcripts, supporting documents, a recommendation from relevant professional bodies, and clearance from required bodies," PSC stated.

Among those shortlisted for the position are John Konchellah, the former PS for East Africa Affairs, and James Gituro Wahome, a former CBK employee who had earlier applied for the deputy governor's position.

Also on the list is Andrew Mukite Musangi, who is a non-executive director at Centum Investment Company Limited, Abdikadir Omar Aden, James Lopoyetum, and Thomas Mwandegu.

All six candidates are men. They are seeking to replace Mohammed Nyaoga whose second four-year term ended last month.

According to the CBK board, the officeholder will be expected to formulate the country's monetary policy, review the performance of the bank governor and maintain a sound use of appropriated resources.

Ten years of experience in the field of economics, banking, or finance is among the requirements for the successful candidate.

The public has been invited to provide any information that would help in the process of selecting the best candidate.
