The National Assembly passed the Finance Bill 2023 report on Wednesday, June 14.

Out of the 257 MPs who took part in the voting exercise, 176 voted in favor of the Bill while 81 opposed. No legislator abstained from the vote.

Ninety-two (92) parliamentarians were absent during the vote.

The report, having sailed through the second stage, will now proceed to the third reading and final stage before the committee of the whole House on Tuesday next week.

Absent during the vote

Some of the MPs who were absent during the vote include; National Assembly Finance and Planning committee chairperson Kuria Kimani, Dadaab MP Farah Maalim, Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Felix Owuor (Langata), Hamis Chome Abdi, George Murugara (Tharaka Nithi), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Peter Nabulindo, Stephen Mule, King'ola Makau, Titus Khamala, Irene Kasalu, Joseph Gachoki, Christopher Aseka, Julius Ruto, Edward Muriu, Pamela Njoki, Joseph Oyula, Catherine Omanyo, Innocent Obiri and John Walter Owino.

Others like Nominated MP Sabina Chege, Rozaah Buyu, TJ Kajwang (Ruaraka), and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo were suspended last week and therefore they could not participate in the voting.

The Bill will now move to the next stage; the third reading where the legislative body will make amendments where needed and then vote it in or against.
