Police in Kisii Saturday night rescued a mother and her daughter from an angry mob after they were allegedly caught dancing at a fresh gravesite in Roura village, South Mugirango.

Two suspects were arrested by Police from Etago and placed under custody after the sleuths snatched them from angry villagers.

Villagers said the standard six daughter was first seen walking on the grave of the late Rev Alloys Mogoi who was buried on Friday and shortly followed by her mother at around 11 at night.

The area Chief Charles Omwono said the two escaped the chops of death after they were caught dancing around the grave.

"I got a call at around 11pm and rushed to the scene. Security officers managed to rescue the two. We hope investigations will be concluded as soon as possible to allow the family of the deceased time to heal."

Wilfred Kebaba, a pastor with Giteri Evangelical Lutheran Church said he was the one who presided over the burial of the deceased on Friday.

"I prayed that whoever comes to this home with any form of evil spirit be arrested, a miracle has happened. We don't want to judge, but let us allow the police to carry out their investigations. We must all go back to God and seek his ways."

In October last year, four people accused of witchcraft were burned to death in Bomokana village in Kitutu Chache, Kisii County.

The four were accused of being behind the bewitching of a high school student, with police now having arrested four suspects in connection with the killings.

In May, Kisii Judge adjourned the hearing of the 12 suspects who had been arrested in connection with the killing of the four women. Hearing resumes on September 26, 2022.
