Atleast 106,990 people have received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Kirinyaga County.

This translates to 24 percent of the adult population, while about 150,781 persons have received the first dose translating to 34 per cent.

About 1770 people have already received booster doses.

Kirinyaga county government has launched a 10-day accelerated mass Covid-19 vaccination drive targeting about 50,000 unvaccinated adults.

Director of Medical Services George Karoki says a team of 49 medics will be doing outreach campaigns in all the five sub-counties so as to help reach out to those who have not been vaccinated.

"All 29 vaccination centers will also be offering the doses. and each sub-counties is targeting to vaccinate 10,000 residents,"Karoki said.

He was speaking while launching the initiative on Wednesday at the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital,

Karoki also confirmed there were seven confirmed positive cases in the hospital, five of the patients are on oxygen while two others are in isolation wards.

Governor Anne Waiguru has asked residents to come out and get vaccinated.

“Covid-19 is still with us, let’s all get vaccinated. The fear that was there initially, is now over, and there is no reason why someone should not receive the doses," said Waiguru.
