National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has faulted MPs for joining citizens in complaining about high fuel prices “when they had the mandate of solving the problem.”
He challenged MPs to bring a motion to Parliament to reduce the price of fuel instead.
“An MP cannot complain when residents are also complaining unless they are saying they have failed in their job,” he said.
Muturi was responding to sentiments by Embu leaders during a fundraiser in aid of St Michael Primary School in Runyenjes Constituency.
MPs Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes) and Cecily Mbarire (Nominated) had joined other legislators in condemning the high fuel costs that has translated to a high cost of living.
Muchangi noted that the Parliament would discuss the skyrocketing fuel prices and the unaffordable National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) contributions.
Mbarire observed that the prices of basic goods and essential services had gone up due to the fuel prices, and called on the government to remedy the situation.
