The 47-year-old man had visited his in-laws at night in Museve village in Kitui Central to negotiate for his wife's return only for him to the attacked and bludgeoned to death. The wife had fled to her parents together with their children after a disagreement.
According to the area assistant chief John Munyoki, it is the man's parents-in-law, his estranged wife and children who pounced on him and clobbered him, leaving him with grievous injuries. They then dumped him at a nearby gulley.
His in-laws then called the man's parents at midnight advising them to collect him at a gulley where they had dumped him. He later succumbed to his injuries.
"We rushed to the scene together with the chief and police officers but found he had already died where he had been dumped. We have arrested them all," said the assistant chief.
Those placed in police custody are awaiting to be charged in court include the man's estranged wife, both his father and mother in law and his children. They are suspected to be the ring leaders in the man's murder.
"He has been having issues with his wife for a very long time although he was seeking for reconciliation but his in-laws appeared to have given up on him," stated the chief.
