Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for impersonation after he was nabbed at an examination room in Nandi South.
The suspect identified as Geoffrey Rono is said to have sneaked into the examination centre in Ndurio Secondary School in Aldai, without the knowledge of invigilators manning the center.
According to Deputy County Commissioner John Tanui, the suspect sat for the English paper which started at 8 am without the Identification Card and was allowed by the invigilator to proceed and write the paper after he claimed he had forgotten to come to with it.
"Later on when the invigilator was going round collecting the papers. It was found that the candidate had written down wrong particulars on the paper, prompting further scrutiny where it was confirmed that the suspect was not a candidate at the centre," he narrated.
It was found that Rono had conspired to sit for the final exams on behalf of Geoffrey Kavulavu, a student who registered last year at the school.
"We raised that alarm and the police intervened and arrested the suspect. The examination officials also suspended the index number of the student. Investigations have been launched to establish the whereabouts of the candidate registered last year, " Tanui said.
Aldai Sub-County Deputy police commander John Owuoth confirmed the suspect is in Kobujoi Police Station and investigations have been launched in pursuit of a 20-year-old student suspected to have conspired to be impersonated.
"We are working with the teachers to find out the missing candidate to assist us in the investigation of KCSE malpractice before arraignment of the suspect in court on Monday," said Owuoth.
Geoffrey Omoding, the County Commissioner said that out of 17, 993 candidates, Nandi recorded the highest number of female candidates.
9, 068 female candidates sat for the KCSE with 8, 925 males.
"Four girls delivered a day before the exams sat for the exams in various county hospitals, two in Kapsabet and one in Nandi south and another in Nandi south," stated Mr Omoding.
