Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i (pictured) has lifted the dusk to dawn curfew in Kapedo, Turkana County.
The curfew that ran from 6.00pm to 6.00am lasted some 30 days, and was imposed to combat insecurity in the region that resulted in the death of security officers and civilians.
“We shall however retain the 10.00pm-4.00am curfew in line with the Presidential directives on the revised Covid-19 containment measures,” the Interior CS said in a statement yesterday.
Authorities have also recovered 53 firearms in the operation, through efforts of involved security teams.
Matiang’i said that peace and normalcy had resumed in the area.
However, road blocks within Kapedo shall be maintained.
“Cattle rustling, banditry and general lawlessness has been brought under control. Learning and other socio economic activities have also resumed,” he said.
Security will however remain heightened to ensure the situation does not slip back.
Government imposed a 30-day curfew in parts of Baringo and Turkana counties in January, aimed at restoring calm and order in the region.
Some lawmakers among them Tiaty MP William Kamket were grilled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nakuru over the happenings in the area.
