Health workers in Trans Nzoia County will be beneficiaries of the first batch of 6,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines owing to their high exposure to patients.
Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Dr. Stanley Tarus said the health workers in both public and private health facilities will be prioritised since they have a higher chance of contacting and transmitting the disease.
Dr. Tarus spoke while receiving a consignment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) worth Sh2 million donated by the Action Against Hunger organization to the county government.
“The next batch will target teachers then later we will focus on security officers and subsequently the elderly,” he said.
The deputy governor also challenged residents to strictly adhere to Covid 19 containment measures to avert the effects of the latest variant of the disease which is more virulent and vicious.
“We have noted laxity among our people with regard to observing the regulations. We will soon start to enforce the guidelines to avert the prevalence which has risen to nine percent,” said Dr. Tarus.
