Three patients quarantined at the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital after exhibiting coronavirus symptoms have tested negative. 

The patients from Lurambi, Navakholo and Khwisero sub counties were given a clean bill of health following tests conducted by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) in Kisumu.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya while making the announcement yesterday at his office, said the three are in stable condition but they shall still remain quarantined for 14 days. “The first patient, a Kakamega-based businessman, who had arrived in the country from Dubai on Sunday. He walked to the referral hospital after experiencing corona-like symptoms and was immediately placed in isolation,” said Oparanya.

The other was a woman who had travelled from Rongai in Nairobi and was first attended to at Mwihila hospital in Khwisero while the third one, a woman jetted into the country from Qatar.

At the same time, the Governor revealed that most bodies that had been lying in the county mortuaries have been picked by families and buried.
