Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has decried an order from the police in which he was compelled to return his firearms.
Speaking at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Nakuru on Tuesday morning, where he handed over his firearms; the legislator lamented that he was now a defenceless and ‘naked man.’
This comes a day after the National Police Service Spokesman Charles Owino in a statement said security details of VIP involved in crime will be withdrawn until they will be cleared by courts.
The lawmaker said he was now “naked” after surrendering his two guns at the Nakuru based Investigative agency and urged his supporters to protect him.
“As you can see me now I do not have any weapon for self-protection. I am naked but the people are my security,” said Ngunjiri.
The legislator also said that his security detail has been withdrawn as the bodyguard was asked to report to Nairobi by 2 pm.
Ngunjiri, who is a close associate of DP Ruto termed the move a witch-hunt telling President Uhuru Kenyatta that it will create divisions in the country.
“This is a witch-hunt. I beg our President, the way things are going will divide Kenyans in a very bad way,” he said
Ngunjiri said his remarks that Deputy President William Ruto was kicked out of government house in Mombasa was the reason why he was asked to surrender his firearm.
“Ati mimi nilisema DP alitolewa vitu kwa nyumba yake Mombasa. But this was in the paper and I do not see any offence in it,” he said.
Yesterday, he recorded a statement with the DCI over his remarks on DP Ruto’s alleged Mombasa mistreatment.
During a press conference on Monday, he said that he is being targeted because of his staunch support of DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid
Other leaders who have so far been affected by the directive are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Moses Kuria (Gatundu South).
