Police have seald off Nabongo Grounds in Mumias town which was to host a rally dubbed, Western Economic Forum, organised by politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

The leaders are yet to arrive in Mumias town ahead of their rally despite indicating yesterday that the rally will go on as planned and that they would be at the grounds in the morning.

Led by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale the leaders dismissed the move by police to cancel the rally, saying police had no capacity to cancel any gathering.

No chaos

Police also dismissed as fake the reports indicating that a school bus heading to Bukhungu Stadium was set on fire in Mumias this morning.

“No bus has been torched as reported in social media, we are on top of everything and will not allow any breach of peace,” said police report.

The fake news had indicated that rowdy youths had set ablaze school buses ferrying people for the the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting at Bukhungu Stadium.

Police in anti-riot gear have sealed off the the venue of the cancelled parallel meeting with others patrolling in Mumias town.

It will be very difficult for the organisers of the rally and their supporters to access the venue if the security deployed at the venue and the entire Mumias town is anything to go by.

At Bukhungu Stadium, people have started trooping into the stadium to attend the BBI meeting, but the leaders are yet to arrive.
