Two Cabinet secretaries have backed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, saying it will address some of the issues dividing Kenyans.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his Environment counterpart Keriako Tobiko spoke yesterday when they joined leaders at a goat auction in support of 4,000 families to get the National Hospital Insurance Fund medical cover in Kajiado town.
The CSs backed President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for initiating the process of uniting Kenyans, adding the move would bring more cohesion among Kenyan communities. Mr Tobiko set the ball rolling and said the proposals of the BBI report were straightforward.
“The executive summary given by the president and Raila at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday has obvious take homea,” he said.
Tobiko said the disbursement of more funds to the grassroots, the expansion of the Executive and the fight against corruption were enough reasons to support the initiative.
“There are those who are sitting on the fence on the pretext that they have not understood the content. The summary is enough,” said the Environment CS.
Dr Matiang’i said the launch of the BBI was a defining moment for Kenya, adding the fact that leaders from across the political divide were talking to each other was critical for the development of the country.
“We have instructions from the president that we must engage both local and national leaders to hasten development,” said Matiang’i.
