Textbooks will be available for the timely rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Grade Four in January, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has said.
Prof Magoha assured parents that all is well, adding that the curriculum designs for the new class are ready. The designs are available at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) bookshop.
“I want all teaching and learning materials for Grade Four to be readily available. Come next year, the system should be up and running," he said.
He said publishers who are running behind schedule would be held accountable. Magoha was speaking yesterday during the launch of the National Education Sector Strategic Plan 2018-2022 and the Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2019 at KICD.
Implementation of CBC has been in phases, starting with PP1 and PP2, and Grades One, Two and Three.
KICD Chief Executive Office Julius Jwan recently met with publishers at the institute and asked them to expedite the process so that the curriculum support materials are accessed on time.
“The quality of the learning materials must be above board and let publishers adhere to the Ministry of Education guidelines,” said Dr Jwan.
Yesterday, Magoha further reaffirmed the Government's commitment in making sure that the pupil to textbook ratio of 1:1 is upheld to guarantee quality teaching and learning.
He asked education field officers to inspect schools and ensure quality curriculum delivery.
