Police in Nakuru are investigating the death of a middle-aged man whose body lay this morning a few meters from the main gate of State House along the Nairobi - Nakuru Highway.
The body laid half-naked and face down in an open field opposite Nakuru State House which has been set aside for tree planting by the Nakuru County government.
The incident caused a traffic jam along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway as hundreds of onlookers stopped and milled around the scene.
According to a police officer not allowed to speak to the press, the man had an Identity Card registered in Kakamega which would help them identify his next of kin.
The police also collected shoes found at the scene which are suspected to have been left behind by the attackers.
The body was taken to Nakuru County mortuary.
Residents have raised security concerns citing recent incidents along the area despite it being close to State House.
They called on the county government to light up the area to stem down crime rates in the town and surrounding estates.
