Five people among them two children died today after their matatu crashed at Kipsoen on the Bomet -Narok Highway.
One person died on the spot while four succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Longisa County Referral Hospital in Bomet East.
The 14-seater matatu belonging to the Egesa Shuttles was traveling from Nairobi towards Kisii.
Witnesses said the driver of the ill-fated matatu was trying to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle when it veered off the road and rolled.
Bomet Central Sub County Police Commander Musa Omari said the driver was among the injured but was in a stable condition.
He added, police are waiting for the driver to be discharged so that he can record a statement on what happened.
“We are waiting for the driver to recover so that he can record a statement with police and help with investigations,” said Omari
He said those injured are being treated at Longisa Hospital and two others were referred to Tenwek Mission Hospital for specialized treatment.
Omari hailed members of the public for responding and helping the victims at the scene.
