Detectives have arrested a 23-year-old woman suspected to have killed a fifth-year student of Egerton University last week.

Patricia Mbithe Mwololo was arrested in Kibera slum, Nairobi, where she had gone to hide.

Njoro Sub County police commander Huka Mohamed has confirmed the arrest.

Ms Mwololo, a butcher at Egerton area is suspected to have killed David Ongeri, before fleeing.

"Detectives have been trailing the woman linked to the murder of the university student, and has since been arrested," Huka said.

Ongeri, an electrical engineering student at Egerton University main campus in Njoro was found dead inside his rental house at Egerton Gate estate on Thursday last week (July 11, 2019).

His body had visible injuries on the head, face, neck hands and legs.

Police recovered a panga stained with blood in the house. They suspect it could be the murder weapon.

The body was taken to the mortuary as the family conducts burial arrangements.

"We shall conclude investigations soon and arraign the suspect in court," the police boss said.

According to preliminary investigations, Mwololo committed the crime following relationship wrangles.

She later escaped and went to hide at a relative's home in Kibera where she was arrested.
