Police arrest 5 illegal immigrants from Eritrea along Isiolo-Moyale highway in Samburu en route to Nairobi; vehicle, money impounded.

Five Eritreans were on Wednesday morning arrested along Isiolo-Moyale Highway, in Samburu East Sub County.

The aliens accompanying two children were headed to Nairobi driving a personal vehicle with registration number KCR 731H (NISSAN SERENA).

The personal vehicle they were travelling in has been impounded by the police.

"Police manning a roadblock at Kirish area along Isiolo-Moyale highway arrested seven aliens of Eritrean nationality who gained entry into the country illegally," County police commander Mr Karanja Muiruri said.

Muiruri said the Eritreans lacked valid travel documents and permits to be in the country.

The money they were carrying was also confiscated by the police.

Police impounded their vehicle and recovered an unknown amount of money in different currencies.

The five and two minors are currently being held at Samburu East Archers police station.

Mr Muiruri says they will be charged with being in the country unlawfully.

"Investigations to arraign the seven adults in court are underway," says Muiruri.
