A Naivasha man accidentally ran over his two-year-old daughter with the family's vehicle, killing the child.
The accident took place at their Ndabibi home Tuesday morning as the man (whose identity police decline to give) was reversing the car.
The middle-aged man is said to be devastated by the incident that has thrown the family into mourning.
The distraught father was left in tears as police from the nearby Kongoni Police Station were called over to carry the lifeless body of the girl.
Emotions ran high among other family members and neighbours as they tried to come to terms with the bizarre incident.
According to neighbour Jennifer Wambui, the man was leaving the house for the nearby trading centre when the accident occurred.
She said that the minor ran behind the car which was reversing leading to her death before driver realised what had happened.
“It’s one of the saddest incidents in this area as the minor followed the father to the car who unknowingly killed her in the process,” she said.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident adding that the body had been collected and taken to Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
“According to initial investigations, the man accidentally ran over the minor killing her on the spot and we have opened an inquest file following the incident,” he said.
And in the nearby Kongoni trading center, police are holding a senior manager from one of the flower farms after he allegedly defiled a twelve-year-old minor.
The suspect in his late 40s was locked at Kongoni police station and the minor treated at Naivasha sub-county hospital where it was confirmed that she had been sexually abused.
A relative who declined to be named said that the manager took advantage of the absence of the mother who works in another flower farm to defile the minor.
“The man who is well known in this area lured the minor into his house where he defiled her but the girl who was in great pain revealed everything to the mother,” she said.
The OCPD confirmed the arrest noting that the suspect was on his way to court where he would be charged with several counts.
