A 16-year-old boy is on the run after stabbing his mother's lover to death in Kericho.

Kericho, Kenya: A 16-year-old student at Kabarus Day Secondary School, stabbed his mother's lover to death after he allegedly found them making love in the kitchen.

The incident occurred at Ririat Village in Bureti Constituency which has attained an infamous reputation of being ‘the murder capital’ of Kericho County.

Mercy Mutai, a neighbour says that on Monday night she heard the suspect arguing with the deceased Michael Rono (65), over his clandestine mission in the homestead.

Area Chief, Anderson Rotich said the suspect lost his temper after the deceased dared to continue an affair with his mother who is a widow.

"The young man had banished the man from the compound before and when he found him having sex with his mother in the kitchen, he lost his temper. He beat the old man before picking a knife and stabbing him twice in the chest," he said.

The man died on the spot.

Patricia Nasio, the Kericho County Deputy Police Commander said they were looking for the suspect.

"We are investigating the incident. We are on the trail of the suspect, once he is arrested, he will be arraigned in court to face relevant charges," she said.

The County Police Deputy commander advised Kericho residents to learn to control their tempers in the face of provocation.

"We are calling particularly on young men to respect their mothers and the choices they make in terms of heart matters," said Nasio.

The body was removed to Kaplaketet Sub County hospital for postmortem and burial arrangements.
