A 28-year-old woman has given birth to quintuples at Kakamega County Referral Hospital.

Everlyne Namukhula who hails from Sisokhe village in Navakholo Sub County gave birth to three girls and two boys through Caesarean Section.

Before she was moved into theatre room, she was a mother of four children, two of whom are twins.

“I am happy and I thank God for blessing me with five children at once. We have many people who admire to have children but they are unable to get due to health challenges,” Namukhula said.

When she went for Ultrasound earlier they found she was carrying three children but when she went into delivery she was surprised to get five babies.

Her husband, Herbert Nabwire said he never anticipated for his wife to give birth to five children at once but termed it as a blessing from God.

“We now have nine children and I treat all of them as a blessing from God. My wish is for the county government to enrol the mother and the children in programmes that will help cater for their nutritional needs since I have hearing challenge and I do not have a stable job,” Nabwire said.

According to doctor Githinji Kongo said such cases are rare and most are hereditary.

“We received referral from Navakholo Sub county hospital around 5pm on Tuesday of a woman who was expecting more than three children and they were not in the right position. We took her for caesarean,” he said.

He said the children weigh between 1.2kg to 1.6kg and they have been put in the incubator.

Health executive, Racheal Okumu said the woman will be enrolled into NHIF

“The referral hospital is in good condition to handle complex delivery issues and programmes have been put in place by the county government to help the mother and her children,” Okumu said.
