The war of words between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto took another angle with Raila asking Ruto how he got the information on the loss of dam project funds.
Speaking During the sixth devolution conference in Kirinyaga County, Raila told Ruto to allow agencies tasked with fighting corruption to do their jobs.
“If we are talking about the theft in the dams project, don't come and tell us it was not Sh20 billion, it was only Sh7 billion. Let the investigating authorities complete their investigations. Who are you to tell us? How did you know?” Raila posed.
Raila further claimed that politicians have politicised war on graft thus hindering the process to tame it. “Development will not happen unless we tame corruption. Corruption is a worldwide phenomenon. The difference is the actions taken once it is discovered.”
Raila’s sentiments come in the wake of Sh21 billion dams scandal that is still under probe.
DP Ruto had denied reports that Sh21 billion allocated to Arror and Kimwarer dam projects in Elgeyo-Marakwet has been lost.
“It is a flat lie, the money in question is Sh7 billion and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee, no money will be lost because we are a responsible Government, we have engaged all arms of the Government to ensure that public resources are safe,” said the DP.
He further insisted that facts should be gotten right in order to nail the corruption suspects.
The animosity between the two leaders has blown up yet again in the recent past renewing their supremacy battle.
The resurgence of a forceful Raila and a restless DP has all indications of an unravelling political melodrama - which may end up in the ballot.
