Employed Kenyans are not excluded from using iTax portal when keying in details to file tax returns, the Kenya Revenue Authority has confirmed.
The KRA said this while giving a clarification on reports that circulated on social media Monday morning, indicating that it had exempted employed Kenyans from the lengthy process of filing tax returns on the iTax portal.
In its tweet, KRA responded to a user who sought to know the authenticity of the statement shared on social media.
The tweet reads: “@SamAlmighty254r Hi, please note that the information is wrong. PAYE returns are filed as usual.”

This precedes some media reports which came majorly from social media alleging a relief for the employed tax payers.
Part of the circulated statement denied by the KRA reads: “The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced relief for employed Kenyans as they will no longer have to undergo the process of keying in their tax returns on the iTax portal.”
It follows a statement by the tax collector, in which it sought to assure the public of its maintenance duties to ease the tax returns filing.
This may have been misconstrued by individuals who went ahead and wrote inaccurate reports about the use of iTax portals, whose rules the taxman says have never changed.
“After taking into consideration issues raised by taxpayers, Kenya Revenue Authority wishes to inform the public of its plan to continue with verification of VAT returns using its automated returns verification module in the iTax System. The exercise will cover the period January 2018 to date,” reads statement posted on KRA website.
