A clergyman has been charged in a Kitale court with conspiracy to kill. Bishop Andrew Wafula of the Redeemed Gospel Church is accused of conspiring with others not before court to kill Reuben Masengeli on January 17 in Kitale town.

The court was told that the bishop borrowed Sh120, 000 from Masengeli then planned to kill him when the deal went sour and the latter reported him to the police.

Prosecutor Felix Mukabana said Wafula and Ferdinand Wanyasia, an employee of the Trans-Nzoia County government, conspired to commit the crime.

Wafula denied the charge before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Biwott. He was remanded until May 22 when the case will be heard.

Wanyasia was charged with a similar offence on February 1 and is out on bond
