The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appointed a Kenyan, Nancy Asiko Onyango, as Director of Internal Audit and Inspection (OIA).
The appointment was announced on Monday by IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. The OIA conducts independent examinations of the IMF’s internal control and governance processes.
Ms Onyango, who takes office in February 2018, will succeed Clare Brady.
“Ms Onyango brings to the Fund more than 25 years of experience in internal audit, strategic risk management, corporate governance and IT risk management,” said Ms Lagarde in a statement posted on the Fund’s web page.
Onyango, a KCB Group plc board director, has significant international, continental and regional experience gained in the UK, Europe and Africa. She has worked across several industry sectors, including financial services, and with several governments, development agencies and non-government organisations. Most recently, she was the CEO at Reliance Risk Advisory Solutions based in Kenya. Before that she was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Kenya.
“I have full confidence that the OIA will continue to thrive under Nancy’s leadership,” said Lagarde.
Onyango has a PhD in business administration from the United States International University-Africa in Nairobi in conjunction with the Columbia Business School, specialising in gender leadership and organisational change management.
