NAIROBI, KENYA: Opposition leaders have vowed not recognise President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the repeat poll.
Led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, the NASA leaders termed the Thursday poll flawed. The leaders are expected to declare their next course of action tomorrow.
Speaking after visiting victims of police brutality at Athi River Hospital in Mavoko Constituency in Machakos, the leaders, including former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, area MP Patrick Makau and group of other Ukambani legislators, said President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto will be surprised by what would be unraveled.
“We will shock them. They will know that you can have power and the guns, but you cannot rule over a people that have refused to obey your leadership,” said Orengo.
Muthama decried the use of brutal force and vowed to pursue the conviction of the Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet for the killings.
“There are several killings that had been done across the country, as the Commander-in-Chief, the President must have sanctioned the officers involved,” said Muthama.
He also alleged that the electoral commission had resorted to inflating votes for the President even after the polls agency boss had claimed that only 6.5 million people had voted.
“There was poor turn out. The President was alone in the contest. Why are they rigging for him when he has the contest for himself?” Muthama posed.
