Contractors hired by the Government to work on road upgrading and maintenance in Makutano, Kacheliba and Kanyao areas of West Pokot County have been ordered to complete the work on time or face dire consequences.

Infrastructure Principal Secretary John Mosonik told the firms to speed up and finish the 80 kilometres of roads estimated to cost Sh3.5 billion.

He said the Government is committed to improving roads in all the counties to ensure that business people can move around the country without problems.

“I am going around the country inspecting what contractors are doing since they were awarded the work on roads.

This can easily tell you how serious the Government is. It’s one of the initiatives of bringing services to the people,” said Mosonik while addressing residents at Makutano trading centre after the inspection.

Mosonik, who was accompanied by road engineers from various counties, said they are also working to ensure sure that the Kitale-Lodwar-South Sudan road is completed on schedule.

Areas that have already benefited in the ongoing roads projects include Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and now West Pokot counties.
