Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’I has asked Kenyans to refrain from aggressive social media activity that is likely to cause tension in the country.
He called on Kenyans to stay calm as they await a pronouncement from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on the ongoing tallying of results.
Dr Matiang’I also reiterated that no part of the country is a hotspot for violence as Kenyans are engaging in their normal activities waiting for the final election results from IEBC.
“We are not aware of any unrest in Kisumu, if there was such disturbance, the IG would be in the know,” he stated.
The CS also thanked the IEBC team for ensuring smooth voting on Tuesday and assured the commission of the Government’s support in case need arises.
The CS had assured Kenyans that adequate measures were taken to safeguard security during voting on Tuesday.
Matiang’i further said no major security incidents had been reported during campaigns and told residents residing near Kenya- Somalia border that sufficient measures had been put in place to ensure peace and stability.
He went ahead to assure Kenyans of their security reiterating they had nothing to worry about as the Government had put measures to ensure every citizen was protected from harm.
