Window cleaning is one of the house chores that many people dread doing. The kind that begs to be hired out or you wish someone else other than you was doing it. It is, however, important as streaks and smudges on glass windows can ruin even the best and prettiest view.
With the right stuff and skills, you can achieve clean streak-free windows. It is more of the tools used than the effort put, and it is not as tedious and boring as it sounds.
Use clean water
In most cases, we do not put into much consideration the kind of water we use for cleaning. This should never be the case when cleaning glass; the water has to be sparkling clean. If using a glass cleaner, dilute it with clean water. Avoid hard water.
You can use distilled water if available, because this will help you achieve better results than using tap water. Tap water has minerals that will most likely leave behind streaky deposits on your glass.
Vinegar is your friend
Vinegar is a multi-purpose ingredient that all homes should have. It is good for your glass windows, just as it is friendly to your kitchen sink drain and great in your salad. Use it in place of a glass cleaner.
Mix the vinegar with clean water in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the glass window and wipe clean, just as you would work with a glass cleaner. The result will be streak-free glass that also smells good.
Choose the right wipe
After cleaning your window panes with clean water and vinegar or glass cleaner, now it is time to wipe them dry. Do not use paper towels (these include but are not limited to tissue paper and serviettes). Paper towels leave your glass streaky and linty. Newspapers do amazing job on glass. Use them or go for a sponge cloth.
