A man died on Monday night following a hippo attack in Manguo on the outskirts of Nyahururu town.
Residents said the victim was walking home when he came across several hippos grazing along River Ewaso Nyiro.
The residents said he was the third person to be killed by hippos in the last one week.
"We heard him wailing at midnight and rushed out to see what was happening only to find him bleeding profusely. He had wounds on the neck and legs," said Joseph Njogu.
"We took him to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival."
The locals said they were living in fear of more attacks and protested against failure by the Kenya Wildlife Service to protect them. [James Munyeki]
