Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has ordered investigations into complaints by the Opposition that State officers were engaging in political campaigns.

He now wants National Super Alliance (NASA) to record a statement with the police to provide evidence over their complaints that the officers are engaging in political activity.

Tobiko said his office was ready to prosecute once the investigations are undertaken and finalised.

"NASA alleges that the State and public officers named therein have been engaged in political activities of the Jubilee Party in breach of the law," Mr Tobiko said.

"NASA further alleges that the named officers have hereby committed criminal offences both under the penal code, Election Offences Act and the Anti-corruption and Economic Crimes Act."

Those targeted include Cabinet secretaries Fred Matiang'i (Education), Eugene Wamalwa (Water), Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution), James Macharia (Transport) and Najib Balala (Tourism). The others are Cleopa Mailu (Health) and Joseph Nkaissery (Interior), PS Joseph Njoroge (Energy) and KRA boss John Njiraini.
